Your journey begins at 4:30 PM, departing the trailhead at picturesque Whalers Cove. In the late afternoon soft light over the landscape, you’ll embark on a fully guided walk along a trail in nature. The path, ranging from easy stretches to moderate inclines, winds through coastal bushland, along the beach and onto the granite rise at Uredale Point. See the majestic and captivating King George Sound, the serene water in Princess Royal Harbour, and foamy waves at Bramble Beach. Feel the fresh evening air and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Albany coastline.
Throughout your approximately 2-hour walk to Uredale Point and back, your expert guide will share stories of First Nations man, Uredale; a Menang elder. A narrative is woven that brings to life the connection to the bloodroot plant. This native plant is the inspiration for Kola’s light installation in Albany, Western Australia.
As the sun dips below the horizon, casting a golden glow you’ll relax at Uredale Point, with the absolute best views of Kari Kola’s ‘Lighting of the Sound’. Total hike distance is 5kms. The terrain is quite uneven including, rocks, sand and steps. Sturdy shoes with good grip are a must. The trail is achievable for most people.
